Apricots: Production estimates issued for Malatya

MALATYA. The official production estimates for Malatya have been released. On average, 50 kg of fresh apricots are to per tree are to be produced. The region accounts for as much as 90% of Turkey fresh apricot production.

Nominal decline in production

testOfficial estimates state that this year’s fresh apricot production will range at 391,792 mt. This is a 2% decline over last year’s production, which ranged at 401,000 mt. Consumption should range at 41,122 mt and the remaining 350,570 mt will be dried, meaning that around 87,642 mt of dried apricots will be produced in 2019/20.

As the government of Malatya states the region has continuously expanded production. In 1974 the region held 893,000 bearing trees and over the last 40 years this figure has risen sharply
