Pistachios: Sanctions hit export market

TEHRAN/SACRAMENTO. Last year, the pistachio market in Iran was hit by an unprecedented slump in production and exports. The export value declined by more than 50% to as little as US 461.882 million. Contrary to this the US export market is experiencing a boom.

Problems with financial transactions put a dent on exports

As market players report production is set to revive to 320,000-350,000 metric tonnes this year and with supplies rising considerably the prices in Iran should become highly attractive for the export market this season. However, financial transactions are rendered extremely difficult and market players reckon that it is barely possible to ship large volumes this season.
