Pistachios: crop damages are possible

TEHRAN. As the harvest is delayed by up to 15 days in many regions in Iran and the Chinese New Year celebrations will be held early on 25 January 2020, the time frame for exports to China is rather short. Exporters are now looking for alternative destinations. Traders and farmers are meanwhile preparing for the arrival of the new crop.

China has replaced the EU as main export destination

After the resumption of the US sanctions and the ensuing economic and financial problems China has evolved to the leading export destination for Iran over the last few years. Previously to this the EU was the most important export destination. Due to aflatoxin issues and the sanctions, however, exports to the EU declined. The exchange rate fluctuations have, in addition, rendered shipments unattractive for many exporters.
