Pumpkin seeds: discouraging prospects in the export market

DALIAN. The offers from China are still very much limited. Many traders can no longer offer any Grade A kernels. Problem is that the preparations for the Chinese New Year are driving up demand.

Domestic demand renders exports unattractive

Market players report that the supply squeeze in China is mainly driven by the high upcountry demand. The local roasters are busy buying and processing kernels in preparation for the Chinese New Year festivities at the end of January. Prices are expected to go down again after the holidays. The question, however, is which level they will have reached by then. Export prices are unlikely to have peaked as yet. The supplies of Grade A kernels are very much limited and Shine Skins, Grade AA are trading in a range of USD 3.20-
