Dried figs: Turkey steps up exports to China

AYDIN. The export season has peaked. Trading activities are expected to cool down in the run up to Christmas and new year. There is, however, high potential in China.

Sharp rise in exports to China

Turkey has exported as much as 28,155 metric tonnes of dried figs and dried fig products since the start of the season on 26 September. This is an increase of nearly 14% over last year and the rise is attributed to lower export prices. Germany (2,508 metric tonnes), France (2,389 metric tonnes) and Italy (2,234 metric tonnes) have remained the three most important export destinations for Turkey. Next in line are the US (1,207 metric tonnes) and Belarus (1,199 metric tonnes). Shipments to China have, in addition, risen sharply to 1,049
