Sugar: prices expected to rise

FRANKFURT. In 2019, the exports of sugar have delcined sharply in Germany and the Czech Republic. Meanwhile, surplus supplies have forced the first plants to close in Russia.

Prices start at EUR 0.52 per kg

The reference prices for granulated sugar, EU Cat. II, currently range at EUR 0.52 per kg DDP Germany. Market players, however, reckon that spot market prices may rise to EUR 0.56 per kg in Europe. Problem is that the suppliers in Eastern Europe provide offers in their local currencies and due to the decline in value of the euro prices have become less attractive for buyers in the euro area.
