Cashews: Covid-19 prompts factory closures in Vietnam

HANOI/NEW DELHI. The Covid-19 epidemic has dire consequences for the processors in Vietnam. Media reports state that exports have nearly come to a complete standstill in January. The impact on the cashew market in India is, however, quite different.

Slow-down in production in Vietnam

China is the main export destination for Vietnam. Enquiries normally peak in January. This year, however, local media report that many traders have cancelled their orders as shipments to China are basically not taking place. This has prompted larger facilities to slow down production and small businesses to close. The larger producing facilities, which can afford to do so, are still running to provide work for their employees and supplies for customers.
