ATLANTA. Pecan nut shipments from the US have declined drastically. Contrary to this, the uptick in US consumption has lent the market some support.

Trade war and coronavirus weigh on exports

As Pecan Report has recently stated, the coronavirus epidemic and trade tensions have rendered exports to China difficult. The Phase 1 deal is, however, regarded as a positive signal. US in-shell exports declined by as much as 26% in September 2019-January 2020 on the same period in 2018/2019. At the same time domestic consumption risen to 61,314 metric tonnes, an increase of more than 20% over 2018/2019. This prompted a stable a market. In Europe, shelled Junior Mammoth pecan halves are, for instance, trading at EUR 11.00 per kg FCA Spain.
