Sultanas: official estimates to be issued any time soon

MANISA. Market players were heavily disappointed as the government failed to issue a crop estimate on Tuesday. Now, the announcement has been postponed until the end of the week. The announcement of a TMO base price has also been delayed.

Rumours abound

Harvesting officially started last week and the grapes are gradually being laid out to dry. Although a production estimates was initially to be issued on Tuesday, this has now been postponed towards the end of the week. Several rumours are, however, afloat. Farmers reckon they will be able to pocket good prices of TRY 11.50-12.00/kg for type-9 sultanas. The exporters are, however, worried over the competitive prices in China and in Iran with which they cannot compete.
