Flaxseed: strong competition from China

NUR-SULTAN/OTTAWA. Kazakh commodity traders continue to hold back, while the flaxseed harvest in Manitoba, Canada, is proceeding only slowly.

EU crop is expected to grow by 11%

According to European market players, the procurement of farmgate goods from Kazakhstan is still challenging and there are hardly any attractive offers. Instead, Chinese customers are are said to buy Kazakh raw materials at prices of USD 520/mt delivered to the border. In order to keep up with this, European buyers would have to raise their bid prices significantly. Spot offers for Eastern European flaxseed with a 99.9% purity are currently ranging at EUR 0.605-0.630/kg DDP Germany.
