Hazelnuts: power struggle in Turkey

ORDU. While hazelnut growers continue to hold back in Turkey, the bid prices issued by a state-run organisation has boosted their convidence.

Bid prices rise to TRY 24/kg

An estimated 40-45% of production have already arrived. Offers are, however, scarce as the farmers are holding back and sales are only conducted on consignment if at all. Exporters refrain from selling prematurely as they fear that prices may rise further.

Although this season's exports so far rank on a low level last seen in 2018/2019, growers insist on higher prices. Farmgate prices ranging as high as TRY 25/kg appear feasible to them as these prices were paid last year when production ranged at 800,000 mt. This year's producti
