AYDIN. The Managing Director of the TMO, Ahmet Güldal, announced that the state-owned organisation would start buying dried figs as soon as raw material prices decline. At present, TMO intervention is not necessary, he said, because...

... the price level is currently in favour of the farmers. However, the market is being closely monitored, even if there is no official statement, Güldal said. Dried figs, premium quality, were last traded at farmgate prices of TRY 25/kg, for grade B quality prices of about TRY 15/kg were called up.

Market players continue to stress that only a small part of this year's crop is of export quality, prices are not expected to decline for the time being. Depending on the supplier, deviations of up to USD 2,000/mt may occur.
