Buckwheat - the new gold of agriculture?

WARSAW/PEKING. Buckwheat is becoming scarce; market players from different growing countries report declining production volumes and discuss the matter.

Buckwheat is not very profitable

Chinese exporters reported that buckwheat yields in the main growing region have declined by 50% this year. Prices are trending strongly upwards and are regularly withdrawn and then raised again. Market experts from Russia, Lithuania and Poland also report declining yields and expect a higher price level for the 2020/2021 season.

According to FAO, the Polish buckwheat crop has fluctuated between 90,000 mt and 110,000 mt in recent years. This year the result is expected to be lower, but unlike in China this
