Macadamias: good prospects for 2021

CAPE TOWN/CANBERRA. The latest INC report shows that the two main macadamia growing countries, South Africa and Australia, are experiencing declines in production. For 2021 the forecasts are much better again.

Sharp drop in production in South Africa

According to the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council, South Africa and Australia remain the main producing countries for macadamias, but both face declines in their 2020 crops. In Australia, the decline in production is still manageable at -3.4% to 42,000 mt, while South Africa produces almost 10,000 mt or 16.2% less macadamias than in 2019. Current estimates amount to 49,503 mt, which according to Macadamias South Africa is mainly due to the severe drought and heat during the flowering phase. Some regions
