Macadamias: Australia expects production to increase by 8%

CANBERRA. Experts expect the Australian macadamia nut crop to increase by more than 8% compared to 2020. Meanwhile, prices for goods from South Africa have increased significantly.

Young trees make up for deficit

The Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries estimates this year's macadamia crop at 50,770 mt in-shell at 3.5% moisture content, which would be an increase of 8.3% or 3,870 mt over last year. According to Australian Macadamia Society (AMS) CEO Jolyon Burnett, growing conditions were significantly better last year than in 2019, allowing for this increase in production. "Some farms are still being affected by dry conditions, but others are performing well," Burnett shared.
