Hazelnuts: demand finally revives

ORDU. With hazelnut exports slowly but surely catching up prospects are highly encouraging in Turkey. As the central bank has so far failed to stabilise the lira a high degree of uncertainty, however, persists in the market. Caution prevails regarding this year’s crop.

 

Exports are catching up

Demand has certainly revived with exports slowly but surely catching up. With overseas shipments for 2020/2021 ranging at 187,827 mt worth USD 1.32 million on 4 April, the volume seems shockingly low as compared with the same period last year when shipments ranged at 254,286 mt worth USD 1.63 million. However, it should be noted that exports for 2018/2019 stood at 193,762 mt at the start of April 2019 and the export value ranged at a lower USD 1.12 million. Demand has
