FRANKFURT/JINAN. China, the top peach and nectarine producer, expects a decline in production this year, despite an increase in acreage.

Crop estimates for 2018/19
China is by far the largest producer of peaches and nectarines with more than half of the world's production originating there. Despite the slightly larger acreage than last year, experts anticipate a decline in production from 14.3 million mt to 13.5 million mt in 2018/19. This spring, frost and hail left their mark in the main growing regions in northern China. The provinces of Shandong and Hebei have been particularly affected, whereas yields are expected to be higher in the areas further south.
