Almonds: first crop estimates issued

MADRID/SACRAMENTO. California's almond orchards will need quite some time to recover from last year's bumper crop. Flowering is now over and first production estimates have been issued.

High carry-over stocks expected

Blue Diamond Almonds, for instance, estimates this year's production at around 1.27 million mt. The weather in March will prove decisive for the development of the fruits and more reliable estimates will be issued at the start of April. The Almond Board of California, meanwhile, estimates last year's prodcution at around 1.4 million mt. Initial estimates ranged lower at 1.36 million mt.
