CHRUDIM/ANKARA. The Czech poppy harvest has now been completed. However, while demand declining, farmers are not willing to accept lower farmgate prices.

Sufficient goods available

Both Czech and Turkish poppy seed traders report on the weak market situation. Sufficient goods are available, but the farmers are currently holding on to their farmgate prices. For this reason, export prices have stabilized and are at a level of EUR 2.15/kg FCA for blue poppy seeds from the Czech Republic, while Turkish blue poppy seeds are still offered for USD 3.15/kg CFR Hamburg. Ultimately, however, the supply and demand situation will determine the further price development.
