OLOMOUC. Due to the dry weather in April and May, the acreage for Czech poppies was smaller than expected. However, rainfall at the end of May has eased the situation somewhat.

Acreage smaller than expected

The current situation in the Czech poppy seed market emphasises how easily the crop can be influenced by the prevailing weather conditions. At the start of sowing, the cultivation forecasts for the 2025/2026 production were still at 40,000 ha. This estimate has now been revised downwards due to unfavourable weather conditions in April and May.
