CHRUDIM. The Czech koruna has been strengthening steadily against the euro for months now. However, export prices in the poppy seed market remained relatively unaffected. Now, the situation has changed.

Price jump to EUR 2,88 per kg DDP Germany

Within one week, the price indications for Czech blue poppy seeds, <10 ppm morphine, have risen from EUR 2.76 per kg FCA to EUR 2.84 per kg FCA and EUR 2.88 per kg DDP Germany respectively. Market players report good demand on the one hand, and on the other hand, the strengthening Czech currency has resulted in noticeably higher prices. Until 2017 the Czech crown was pegged to the euro. Since then, an enormous increase in value has been observed, which should continue for the time being.
