CHRUDIM. The poppy seeds farmers in the Czech Republic have reaped good profits this season and are in no hurry to sell. However, the market is becoming more and more aware of the increasing pressure from different competitors.

 

Mixed goods causing pressure
In recent weeks, it has become increasingly difficult for Czech traders to find buyers for their blue poppy seeds. Since the farmers were not prepared to go down in farmgate prices, the prices for good quality Czech products stubbornly remained on a level of 2.34-2.40 EUR/kg DDP Germany.

At the same time, offers circulated in the European poppy market priced at 2.00 EUR/kg. These were often blue poppy seeds, with no clear information regarding the country of origin, for which the suppliers guaranteed morphine levels
