PRAGUE. Because they can sell other raw materials in the meantime, farmers are under no pressure. Meanwhile, what are the blue poppy seed traders going to do?

They are in need of enquiries, but at least traders are sure that the farmers will not hold on to their virtually utopian price expectations. Already now, they are having problems to sell their produce. In an attempt to make Czech blue poppy seeds more attractive to buyers, farmers have lowered their prices yet again in this week. The price level is currently at 1.22 EUR/kg DDP Germany.

According to the Czech Statistical Office, this year’s crop has turned out very well also, and the production volume should reach the previous year’s value, at least. That is why traders are counting on a similar course in seasonality as in 2015/16. Which means: Stable prices until February, then things will progress downhill.
