Blue poppy seeds: good demand drives price adjustments

CHRUDIM. Although the fields are still covered in snow in the Czech Republic, preparations will be underway for the sowing of the new poppy seed crop in only a few weeks.

Sowing to start in a few weeks

Preparations for the sowing of the new crop will be underway in around two to three weeks, as long as the weather permits. At present, the field are, however, still covered in snow.  Sowing normally starts in March and no delays are expected this year so far. At 40,000 ha, the area sown is to be similar in size to last year. Adverse weather conditions have been an issue in recent years and the market intends to reduce the risk of loss.
