CHRUDIM. With the current developments between Russia and Ukraine, Czech poppy seed traders are worried about their business, because their most important customer is involved. Market players expect a massive impact on cultivation figures for this year.

More than 25% of Czech exports go to Russia

The escalation of the Russia-Ukraine crisis is also throwing the Czech blue poppy seed market into turmoil and market players are looking to an uncertain future. Russia has been the most important importer of Czech poppy seeds so far. In view of the current situation, however, some farmers want to focus on more lucrative agricultural products.
