Blue poppy seeds: plans for sowing in 2025

CHRUDIM. Czech poppy farmers are in the hot planning phase regarding sowing for the 2025 crop. However, comparatively large acreages of winter poppy seeds are causing market players concern.

Similar acreage as last year

Plans for the 2025 sowing season are currently being discussed in the Czech poppy seed market and the conditions for a good crop are mixed. So far, the winter in the Czech Republic has had very little rainfall and market players fear that it could remain comparatively dry in the spring. Sufficient soil moisture and favourable weather conditions are important factors for good plant development after sowing. Experts currently reckon that this year's acreage will be similar to that of 2024, and may even be slightly larger. With this in mind
