Blue poppy seeds: the pressure on suppliers is growing

CHRUDIM. Delayed shipments are causing Czech traders to adjust their poppy seed prices downwards. In addition, poppy seed imports to Germany have been extremely weak this season.

Pressure on suppliers is growing

Despite the significantly larger acreage compared to 2020, the Czech poppy seed crop was only a few hundred tonnes larger at around 29,400 mt. A large part of the crop is affected by quality problems. Nevertheless, blue poppy seed prices moved in a direction this week that traders did not expect so soon. The coronavirus infections and partial lockdowns that take place in many countries and the resulting restrictions caused Czech traders to lower their prices.
