CHRUDIM. The Czech blue poppy seed market has seen it all during the last three years: From weeks of no change to rapid price jumps to a long-term price decline, the price curve did not miss anything. And this year, a rollercoaster ride is inevitable.

Prices stable for now

It’s still quiet on the buyer's side in the Czech blue poppy seed market. Farmers are, however, not prepared to cut farmgate prices and traders are also maintaining the same price levels of the past few weeks. Prompt deliveries range between 2.30-2.35 EUR/kg DDP Germany, while 2018 blue poppy seeds, which have not even been sown yet, are being offered for 1.60-1.65 EUR/kg DDP Germany.

The current price level is expected to continue until the end of February, when the cards are reshuffled. When sowing begins in March
