Blue poppy seeds: Price slump expected in 2018/19

CHRUDIM. In the last weeks, the first traders made offers for blue poppy seed deliveries from the 2018 crop. According to current information, they would should be able to make an absolute fortune with this.

 

Is a 25% drop in prices possible?

Czech blue poppy seed traders reported that farmers have offered blue poppy seeds from the 2018 crop to be delivered in August at a price of 40 CZK/kg. Adding a margin, analysis and transport costs, suppliers would thereby be able to offer Czech blue poppy seeds for less than €1.70/kg DDP Germany – a drop of 25%. Prices were last seen at this level at the start of 2016. They then fell below 1.20 EUR/kg within a few months.
