CHRUDIM/BUDAPEST. Hungarian blue poppy seed traders are more than frustrated with this year's crop result. A big question mark also continues to hover over this year's poppy production in the Czech Republic.

Hail damages poppies in Hungary

Large losses have already been recorded due to a lack of rainfall; now market players say that the plants that survived the drought were surprised by hailstorms and rain showers two weeks ago. It therefore remains to be seen how high the final production result will be; forecasts speak of a maximum of 2,000-2,5000 mt. With such a quantity, exports are hardly conceivable; rather, the market will have to import additional larger quantities.

Czech crop volume still unclear
