Blue poppy seeds: Prices will push the limit

CHRUDIM. Poppy seed farmers in the Czech Republic intend to seize on last year’s small crop to raise prices. Supply is, however, sufficient to meet demand.

 

Reluctant buyers

After the market witnessed a price increase last week, the prices for Czech blue poppy seeds are now remaining at a stable 2.29 EUR/kg FCA Czech Republic. The high prices are preventing demand to be higher than supplies. Market players, however, reckon that the buyers will only reluctantly if at all accept a further increase in prices to a maximum of 2.50 EUR/kg.

With rumours circulating that acreage is to increase by 30% in 2018 and the first offers for the new crop not even being as high as 1.70 EUR/kg DDP Germany some trade
