CHRUDIM. Because of the current market situation, the prices for both the new and the old crop are moving in the same direction.

Upwards trend

Less and less high-quality seeds from the 2016 crop are available on the market, causing prices to rise. They have now reached a level of 1,310 EUR/mt DDP Germany – with an upwards trend. In contrast, Turkey has maintained the same price level as the last weeks, which is 2,100-2,200 USD/mt CFR Hamburg.

Farmers are waiting

Because of the drought in June, market players expect that the production volume of Czech blue poppy seeds will drop to a 4-year low in 2017/18. The lack of precipitation is affecting plant development, and rumours say that the yield will be below average. Farmers are withdrawing their offers for the new crop for now, while the export price level is increasing to 1,350 EUR/mt FCA Czech Republic.
