Blue poppy seeds: Production drops by 25%

CHRUDIM. The Czech Statistical Office has published the preliminary estimates for the Czech poppy seed production in 2017: The yield decreased by more than 25% compared to last year.

 

18.7% less yield
Early in the season it was already clear that acreage would be smaller this year. Due to unfavourable weather conditions, the yield per hectare will, however, be significantly lower as well. According to current reports, around 21,180 mt of poppy seeds have been produced on 32,586 ha. The yield per hectare as such amounts to 0.65 mt/ha - 18.7% less than average (0.80 mt/ha).
