OLOMOUC. Although the official cultivation forecast is still pending, it can currently be assumed that sowing in the Czech Republic will be higher than last year. However, the low rainfall in recent months could reduce yields.

Individual fields already ploughed up again

Sowing for the 2025 Czech poppy seed crop has now been completed. Official estimates are expected at the beginning of July. Based on the information available so far, market experts estimate that the area under cultivation will be around 40,000 hectares and therefore around 10% larger than in the 2024/2025 season.

In some growing regions, it is too dry; the winter was already characterised by low precipitation and there was hardly any snowfall. In some parts of the country, it has not rained for more than a month.
