Blue poppy seeds: September exports surprisingly high

CHRUDIM/ANKARA. According to the Czech Statistical Service, September exports were on the same level as last year. Overall, however, the export volume has been significantly lower since the start of the season.

Total exports 14% down on last year

According to official figures, around 2,500 mt of poppy seeds were shipped overseas in September 2020, which is roughly the same export volume as in the same month last year. Shipments to Austria (+2% to 587 mt), Russia (+6% to 587 mt), Poland (+17% to 546 mt) and Slovakia (+61% to 174 mt) increased markedly year-on-year, whereas countries such as Germany (-17% to 260 mt), Hungary (-46% to 71 mt) and the Netherlands (-4.5% to 150 mt) reduced their imports.
