OLOMOUC. Sowing is about to start in the Czech Republic next week, but conditions are far from ideal.

Producers refuse to sell

Remaing supplies are very limited as around 80% of the 2024 crop have already been sold, which only leaves 8,000 mt. To make matters worse most producers are holding back in anticipation of a price peak around Easter. Poppy seed prices have risen continously in the last few weeks and there is little chance that this situation will change. Demand is average. The prospects for this year's crop are far from encouraging.
