CHRUDIM. The new crop is approaching and while farmers and traders are still cautiously testing the market, export prices for old supplies are coming under increasing pressure.

Old crop again more favourable

Buyers focus on the new crop and are hardly interested in spot purchases. In order to keep the overstock supplies as low as possible, farmers and traders are regularly reducing the prices for 2019 goods. Meanwhile, blue poppy seeds, <10 ppm morphine are available from EUR 2.29 per kg FCA Czech Republic and thus about EUR 0.30per kg cheaper than just a few weeks ago.

The willingness to lower prices suggests that there are still no negative reports regarding the coming crop. Nevertheless, traders are holding back with offers in the hope of being able to conclude a few more spot sales. At a level of a good EUR 2.00 per kg FCA Czech Republic, the price indications for the new crop are significantly lower than the current market prices.
