CHRUDIM/ANKARA. The two-week lockdown imposed in the Czech Republic as of Thursday has given rise to a high degree of uncertainty in the blue poppy seed market. Traders report that market developments are quite different this year.

Good production confirmed

The official poppy seed production estimate recently issued by the Czech Statistical Service is in line with expectations. At 29,000 mt production ranges more than 4,500 mt higher than last year and is the best result recorded in recent years. Although rain has impacted quality in some places, it is in general said to be good.
