VILNIUS. Due to a decline in production prices traded higher in Lithuania last week. Now the market is under pressure from competitors in other producing countries.

Pressure from Poland

Traders in Lithuania had originally intended to sell the new crop for 1.15 EUR/kg since drought has reduced production by 15%. Suppliers in Poland, however, offer caraway at a much cheaper rate of 0.97 EUR/kg DDP Germany. This has now prompted the traders in Lithuania to offer even cheaper rates of 0.95 EUR/kg DDP Germany. Arrivals should be available from the start of August.

BRUSSELS. Although EU importers spent less on spices in 2025 than in the record year of 2024, the import value is still quite high as official statistics show. Record amounts were, in fact, spent on cardamom, fenugreek and spice mixtures, saffron and turmeric. Pepper tops the chart. While the year-to-year import value has risen for cinnamon, cloves and mace, the opposite is the case for capsicum, ginger and vanilla, cumin, nutmeg and coriander and curry.
