Cashews: chasing demand

NEW DELHI/BRUSSELS. Demand for cashews is not quite as it should be in India and in China. EU imports may have only risen ab bit in the first quarter of 2026 but have reached record highs.

Weak demand in India

Indian kernel demand is slightly weak as there is less demand for pieces in the hotels, restaurants and cafés/catering segment. In addition, the export of whole grades has halted to Middle Eastern countries. The recent steep increase in the prices for commercial cooking gas may further complicate the scenario going forward.

In India, the prices for new crop RCN imports from Ghana, 49 lbs, stand at USD 1.73/kg. Local RCN prices range at USD 1.62-1.68/kg. The Indian rupee is currently hovering above USD 0.0105 (95 Rs), signalling a
