Cashews: the farmgate price riddle

HANOI. The demand for Vietnamese cashews is currently very high. This usually also drives up the RCN prices - instead, they have declined noticeably.

Massive import increases

Vietnamese market players are currently showing great buying interest. This leads to very high imports: Around 300,000 mt were imported in March, with an estimated value of USD 490 million. Extreme increases can be seen in import values for the whole of Q1 2021, with a total of 539,000 mt of cashew nuts worth USD 839 million being imported in the first three months of the year, representing a volume increase of a good 174% year-on-year. MACAO. According to the crop estimates released at this week’s International Nut and Dried Fruit Council Congress in Macao the USA will overtake Chile as second largest producer for hazelnuts. The Black Sea Hazelnut and Products Exporters’ Association has revised the crop estimate for Turkey.
