NEW DELHI/HO CHI MINH. For top cashew producer Côte d’Ivoire, the first half of the year was rather disappointing. New US import tariffs have put Vietnam at a disadvantage. Tanzania is the main trading partner for India.

Disappointing year in Côte d’Ivoire

In the first half of 2026, Côte d’Ivoire remained the world's top raw cashew nut producer. Yet, farmers harvested fewer nuts of lower quality than in 2025 due to heavy rain. The government kept a fixed price of USD 0.68/kg for farmers and let local processing factories buy cashews first until late March. When exports opened in April, poor nut quality increased drying and sorting costs, causing the prices paid to farmers to drop to USD 0.34-0.60/kg in June.
