Chickpeas: contrasting supply situation

NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. While the supply situation for chickpeas is highly encouraging for buyers in Canada, the opposite is the case in India.

High supplies in Canada

Canada’s chickpea market is currently sitting in a heavy supply situation. Production jumped significantly in the 2025–26 season, and with additional carryover stock from the previous year, overall availability has become quite large. Even though exports have been performing well, excess stocks are still weighing on the market. Buyers are not in a rush, and that is keeping prices from moving up.
