Cranberries: slight delay in the pollination phase

Harvest is progressing well
In the Canadian province of Québec, the cranberry bushes are developing as expected for this time of year. The flowering period began last week, starting with the early varieties. However, according to the latest report from Chelmer Foods, there are currently delays in pollination of an estimated three to four days. The region recently experienced a heatwave and rainfall levels have been mixed, which is why growers need to keep a close eye on the plants so they can intervene with appropriate irrigation and plant protection measures if necessary. The weather over the next four to six weeks will have a significant impact on yield. At present, an average production is expected.
According to Chelmer Foods, increased activity by leafrollers (Tortricidae) was observed in the growing regions this year, but the situation was brought under control. Overall, the pest threat is currently low to moderate. The growing regions are regularly inspected for potential infestation by common pests.
According to data from the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council, 210,200 mt of dried cranberries were produced worldwide in the 2025/2026 season, just under 4% more than in the previous year. In Canada, production stood at 49,700 mt, a figure similar to that of 2024/2025, whilst US production was also relatively stable at 143,900 mt (+1% year-on-year). On the European spot market, US cranberries, harvested in mid-June, were quoted at EUR 4.09/kg FCA Poland, while whole cranberries from Canada were trading at EUR 4.40/kg FCA in early July.
EU imports down by 8%
EU imports of dried cranberries have continued to fall this year. Since January 2026, 23,199 mt (-8% year-on-year) worth EUR 86.383 million (-5% year-on-year) have been imported. Canada has overtaken the US as the main trading partner; EU countries have imported 11,386 mt of dried cranberries from Canada since the start of the year, which is around 7% more than last year. At the same time, shipments from the US fell by 20% to 10,109 mt, and imports from Chile also recorded a decline (-7% to 1,668 mt).
By far the largest buyer within the EU is the Netherlands, with 15,790 mt. It is followed by Poland (+0.2% to 1,800 mt), Germany (-28% to 1,610 mt) and Italy (+18% to 1,020 mt).
