Cumin: notable shift in prices

KHOOSHAB. More than 7,000 metric tonnes of cumin are harvested in Khorasan Razavi every year. Khooshab city is one of the hubs of production. The market is, however, subject to the escalating conflict with the US.

Ideal climatic conditions

In Khooshab County production has risen by 200 metric tonnes this year. The increase in production is drive by heavy rains. Cumin is particularly popular in the province as it is a pest-resistant plant, requires little water and has short growing periods. Khooshab city provides ideal climatic conditions. The medicinal properties of the plant also render the cultivation particularly attractive and annual exports range at 3,000 metric tonnes in Khorasan Razavi.

BRUSSELS. Although EU importers spent less on spices in 2025 than in the record year of 2024, the import value is still quite high as official statistics show. Record amounts were, in fact, spent on cardamom, fenugreek and spice mixtures, saffron and turmeric. Pepper tops the chart. While the year-to-year import value has risen for cinnamon, cloves and mace, the opposite is the case for capsicum, ginger and vanilla, cumin, nutmeg and coriander and curry.
