HAJIABAD. Due to the hot and dry climate Hajiabad in the Hormozgan province in southern Iran is the main producing region for Piarom dates. These fruits are in high demand. Although the harvest was delayed, the production prospects are highly encouraging.

Production to rise by 5%

As much as 55 different types of dates are cultivated in the Hormozgan province and annual production ranges at 150,000 metric tonnes. The Piarom dates are distinguished by a high nutritional value, a high resistance to salinity and a good optical appearance, which render the fruits particularly attractive for the export market.
