Commodity prices are rising
The coconut market is showing increasing activity, as the experts at T.M. Duché note in their latest report. While prices for desiccated coconuts have remained largely stable, quotations for coconut oil have risen. At the same time, prices for shipments in early 2027 are already showing a significant premium. Philippine coconut production recovered in the second quarter of 2026, rising by around 2.4% year-on-year to approximately 3.45 million mt.
The picture for desiccated coconut exports is mixed. In July, 14,384 mt were exported, 17.1% less than in the same month last year, but 8.1% more than the monthly average from January to June. From January to July, exports totalled 94,209 mt, slightly above last year’s figure of 93,386 mt. At the same time, domestic prices for desiccated coconuts in Manila and prices for shelled coconuts in Southern Tagalog rose. As a result, processors are facing higher costs, whilst export prices have remained subdued.

Coconut oil with a more positive outlook
Market activity in coconut oil has recently picked up, and spot prices have risen compared with last week. At the same time, offers for February and March 2027 are already around 7% above the most recent level for prompt shipments. This already reflects the possibility of tighter supply in 2027. Coconut prices in the Philippines have also trended upwards recently, though they remain below last year’s levels. The island nation’s coconut oil exports totalled 752,340 mt from January to July, compared with 723,501 mt in the previous year. In July, however, exports were 4.6% below the same month last year and 30.4% below the monthly average for January to June, according to T.M. Duché.
For European buyers, transport costs have recently declined. Freight rates from Shanghai to Rotterdam fell by 5% to USD 4,092 for a 40’ FCL, whilst the rate for the route to Genoa fell by 10%. Drewry expects a further moderate easing of pressure given rising capacity on the Asia-Europe route and weaker demand.
