Dried apricots: harvest and drying in full swing

MALATYA. In Turkey, apricot farmers are hard at work harvesting and drying their fruit, meaning the new export season is likely to start on schedule. However, old crop produce suitable for export is no longer available.

New export season starts on 1 August

Weather conditions in the Turkish growing region of Malatya are currently favourable for drying apricots, with night-time temperatures of 18-20°C and daytime highs of up to 37°C. According to market players, the harvest is in full swing in the plains, and almost all growers have already begun the drying process. In higher-altitude growing areas, the main harvest is expected to begin in about a week.
