AYDIN. Despite the extreme heat, market players are satisfied with the development of the figs so far. However, such temperature peaks must not become frequent. Official yield estimates are expected to be available in a few weeks.

Fruit set is satisfactory

Farmers in the Turkish province of Aydin have begun harvesting table figs. However, due to extreme temperatures of up to 44°C in the midday sun, workers only in the mornings during the first few days. Despite the hot weather, the fruits appear to be of good quality at this stage. Only the size of the fruits is slightly smaller than usual for this time of year due to the heat stress. At least this week, temperatures are not expected to exceed 40°C. The slightly more moderate temperatures are important for the fruits to grow.
