FRANKFURT. Figs are enjoyed fresh or as dried fruit the world over. The fruit we know comes from the fig tree (Ficus carica). In total there are 750-1,000 types ranging from deciduous and indeciduous trees to shrubs and creepers. They are found worldwide in tropical and sub-tropical regions. Beside the large trees affording shade in parks and gardens the smaller versions are also used as houseplants.
